Test D: Power Window Inoperative From Master Switch

NOTE: This test is used to diagnose either an inoperative driver door window, or passenger door window that is inoperative only from driver door switch assembly. This test assumes that all DTCs have been diagnosed.
  1. If door systems diagnostic systems check has been performed, go to next step. If door systems diagnostic systems check has not been performed, perform DOOR SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Operate all power windows from Driver Door Switch Assembly (DDSA), verifying that windows operate normally. If windows operate normally, problem may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittents, see PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If windows operate normally, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe appropriate driver left front, driver left rear, driver right front or driver right rear WINDOW SWITCH parameter in DDSA INPUTS list. Operate each switch in DDSA to up, down and express down positions. WINDOW SWITCH parameter should change from IDLE state to UP, DOWN and EXPRESS DOWN states as commanded. If parameter displays as specified, go to next step. If parameter does not display as specified, go to step  12 .
  4. If driver's window is inoperative window, go to next step. If inoperative window is any other window, perform TEST C: PASSENGER DOOR POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE  .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Driver's Door Module (DDM) Black 4-pin harness connector C1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect test light between DDM harness connector C1 terminals "A" (Orange wire) and "D" (Black wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  11 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect DDM harness connector C1. Disconnect driver's window motor Gray 2-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using test light connected to ground, probe window motor harness connector terminal "B" (Dark Blue wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Operate driver's window switch to up position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  9 .
  7. Using test light connected to ground, probe driver's window motor harness connector terminal "A" (Brown wire). Operate driver's window switch to down position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10 .
  8. Connect test light between driver's window motor harness connector terminals "A" (Brown wire) and "B" (Dark Blue wire). Operate driver's window switch to up and down positions. If test light illuminates in both positions, go to step  13 . If test light does not illuminate in both positions, go to step  14 .
  9. Check for short to ground, open, or high resistance in left front up circuit (Dark Blue wire) between driver's window motor and DDM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  19 . If no problem is found, go to step  14 .
  10. Check for short to ground, open, or high resistance in left front down circuit (Brown wire) between driver's window motor and DDM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  19 . If no problem is found, go to step  14 .
  11. Check for open, or high resistance in battery positive voltage circuit (Orange wire) between rear fuse block and DDM harness connector C1 terminal "A". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  19 . If no problem is found, go to step  15 .
  12. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in DDSA harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  19 . If no problem is found, go to step  16 .
  13. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in driver's window motor harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  19 . If no problem is found, go to step  17 .
  14. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in DDM harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  19 . If no problem is found, go to step  18 .
  15. Repair open in DDM ground circuit (Black wire) between ground and DDM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Ground point is located under left front door sill trim plate. After repairs are made, go to step  19 .
  16. Replace DDSA. See DRIVER DOOR SWITCH ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  19 .
  17. Replace driver's window motor. See WINDOW MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  19 .
  18. Replace DDM. See DOOR MODULES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  19. Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, testing is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step  2 .
