DTC U1714 Or U1716: Driver's Door Module Communication Failure: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Cadillac Seville. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If door systems diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door systems diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform DOOR SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect suspect window motor harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between suspect window motor harness connector terminals "B" (White wire) and "F" (Black wire). Voltage should be 9.5-16 volts. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, go to step  4 .
  3. Measure voltage between ground and suspect window motor harness connector terminal "F" (Black wire). Voltage should be 9.5-16 volts. If voltage is not as specified, go to step 8 . If voltage is as specified, go to step  9 .
  4. Measure voltage between ground and suspect window motor harness connector terminal "E" (Pink wire). Voltage should be 7.5-9.5 volts. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, go to step  11 .
  5. If voltage measured in step 4)  was less than specified voltage, go to next step. If voltage measure in step 4)  was greater than specified voltage, go to step  7 .
  6. Inspect Pink wire for an open, high resistance or short to ground between suspect window motor harness connector terminal "E" and appropriate door module harness connector terminal No. 17. See Figure . If problem does not exist, go to step  10 . If problem exists, repair Pink wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  7. Inspect Pink wire for a short to voltage between suspect window motor harness connector terminal "E" and appropriate door module harness connector terminal No. 17. See Figure . If problem does not exist, go to step  10 . If problem exists, repair Pink wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  8. Inspect Black wire for an open, high resistance or short to ground between suspect window motor harness connector "F" and appropriate door module harness connector terminal No. 16. See Figure . If problem does not exist, go to step  10 . If problem exists, repair Black wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  9. Inspect White wire for an open, high resistance or short to voltage between suspect window motor harness connector terminal "B" and appropriate door module harness connector terminal No. 19. See Figure . If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  10. Inspect suspect door module harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  12 . If problem exists, repair suspect door module harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  11. Inspect suspect window motor harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  13 . If problem exists, repair suspect window motor harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  12. Replace suspect door module. Program suspect door module. See WINDOW MOTOR PROGRAMMING - EXPRESS MODE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step  14 .
  13. Replace suspect window motor. Program appropriate door module. See WINDOW MOTOR PROGRAMMING - EXPRESS MODE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  14. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within code enable criteria. If DTCs resets, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
