Removal & Installation: Compressor: Removal

  1. Recover the refrigerant. See RECOVERY, EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING. Remove the accessory drive belt. Raise and support vehicle. Remove the engine splash shield. Turn the wheels to the right. Remove the fight fascia extension. Disconnect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter.
  2. Remove the bolt that secures the compressor hose assembly. See Figure. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.
  3. Remove the compressor mounting bolts. See Figure. Rotate the compressor, so that the compressor may exit through the wheelhouse extension opening. Remove the compressor.
  4. If you will reuse the same compressor, drain and measure as much of the oil from the compressor as possible using the following procedure:
    • Drain the oil from both the suction and the discharge ports into a clean container.
    • Measure and record the amount of oil drained from the compressor.
    • This measurement will be used during the compressor installation procedure.
