Diagnostic System Check
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not communicate with VTD module, go to next step. If scan tool communicates with VTD module, check for DTCs following scan tool manufacturer's instructions. If DTCs exist, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX
table. If no DTCs exist, see VEHICLE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM CHECK
under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Attempt to communicate with Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Dash Integration Module (DIM) and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) on serial data line. If other modules communicate, go to next step. If no communication is possible, locate and repair open or short in communication circuit(s). See
DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage at IGN SW fuse (15-amp) located in rear junction block, and IP fuse (10-amp) and START circuit breaker (30-amp) located in underhood fuse block. If voltage is 10.5-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 10.5-15 volts, repair open in ignition feed or battery feed circuits to fuse(s). If fuses are faulty, locate and repair short circuits and replace fuses as necessary. After repairs, go to step 6
.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect VTD module connectors. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at VTD module harness connector terminal "A" (Orange wire) and terminal "F" (White wire). If voltage is 10.5-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 10.5-15 volts, repair open in Orange and/or White wire. Recheck system operation.
- Using DVOM connected to battery positive, measure voltage between ground and VTD module harness connector terminal "H" (Black/White wire). If voltage is 10.5-15 volts, replace VTD module. If voltage is not 10.5-15 volts, repair open in Black/White wire. After repairs, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect all connectors. Clear all DTCs and recheck system for proper operation.
