Test No. 4: Left Lumbar Support Does Not Move In Or Out
NOTE:
This procedure applies to vehicles equipped with memory systems only.
- If memory system check was performed, go to next step. If memory system check was not performed, go to MEMORY SEATS SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Select INPUTS from Memory Seat Module (MSM) data display. Operate left lumbar switch to in and out positions. If scan tool indicates lumbar switch input was received, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate lumbar switch input was received, go to step 18 .
- Disconnect left lumbar horizontal motor connector located on left side of seat. See Figure . Connect a fused jumper between battery voltage (B+) and one of the lumbar motor cavities. Connect a second fused jumper between the other lumbar motor cavity and ground. If lumbar motor runs, go to next step. If lumbar motor does not run, go to step 6 .
- Check for open or short to ground in Pink or Pink/Black wires between MSM and left lumbar horizontal motor. If circuits are okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found, go to step 12 .
- Check for open or short to ground in Dark Blue or Dark Blue/White wire between MSM and left lumbar horizontal motor. If circuits are okay, go to step 7 . If faulty circuit is found, go to step 13 .
- Replace left lumbar horizontal motor. See POWER SEATS - ELDORADO article. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Check for poor connections at MSM connector. If connections are okay, go to next step. If faulty connections are found, go to step 14 .
- Check for open in Orange wire between MSM connector C2 terminal "D" and splice S306 located in rear body harness approximately 2" (5.08 cm) from rear seat channel harness breakout. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found, go to step 15 .
- Check for open in Red wire between MSM connector C4 terminal "B" and splice S311 located under left seat approximately 14" (35.5 cm) from ground harness breakout. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found, go to step 16 .
- Check for open in Black wire between MSM connector C2 terminal "C" splice S351 located in left seat harness approximately 2" (5.08 cm) from power seat motor harness breakout. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found, go to step 17 .
- Replace MSM. See MEMORY SEAT MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Repair open or short to ground in Pink or Pink/Black wire. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Repair open or short to ground in Dark Blue or Dark Blue/White wire. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Repair the appropriate terminals. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Repair open in Orange wire. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Repair open in Red wire. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Repair open in Black wire. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect left lumbar switch connector. Operate left lumbar switch to in position. Using DVOM, measure resistance between left lumbar switch connector terminals "E" and "B" (component side). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step 21 .
- Operate left lumbar switch to out position. Using DVOM, measure resistance between left lumbar switch connector terminals "E" and "A" (component side). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step 21 .
- Repair open in Gray or Purple wire. After repairs, go to step 22 .
- Replace left lumbar switch. See POWER SEATS - ELDORADO article. After repairs, go to next step.
- Perform MEMORY SEATS SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
