Eight-Way Power Seats

Four actuator motors are used to make the 8 adjustment options. The seat horizontal, front vertical and rear vertical motors are located in seat cushion. Recliner actuator motor is located in seatback. On vehicles without memory seats, adjuster motors are driven by the power seat switches. On vehicles with memory seats, adjuster motors are driven by the Driver's Seat Adjuster Memory Module (DSAMM).

Seat actuator motors are equipped with overload protectors. If motor meets an obstruction, current supply to actuator motor is interrupted. If longitudinal adjustment actuator malfunctions, seat can be adjusted using emergency crank handle stored in vehicle tool set.

To prevent the front seats from tilting too far forward, which could allow an occupant to slide under a seat belt during an accident, a submarine switch is used. This switch, located in seat, interrupts current feed to seat inclination motor as soon as front seat height is 0.4" (10 mm) lower than rear seat height.
