DTC B1329: Passenger's Side Solar Sensor: Testing

  1. If body control system diagnostic check has been performed, go to next step. If body control system diagnostic check has not been performed, perform body control system diagnostic check. See BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Park vehicle in a well lighted area. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, display passenger's side solar sensor and note sensor count value. Cover sensor with a dark material. If sensor count increases, go to next step. If sensor count does not increase, go to step  4 .
  3. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Start engine and allow to idle. Check for DTCs. If DTC B1328 resets, go to next step. If DTC B1328 does not reset, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect passenger's side solar sensor connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between sensor connector terminals. If reading is 5 volts, go to step  8 . If reading is not 5 volts, go to next step.
  5. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and sensor connector terminal "A" (Gray wire). If reading is 5 volts, go to step  9 . If reading is not 5 volts, go to next step.
  6. Using DVOM connected to ground, backprobe and measure voltage at IPM connector terminal B3 (Gray wire). See Figure . If reading is 5 volts, go to next step. If reading is not 5 volts, go to step  10 .
  7. Repair open or short in Gray wire. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  8. Replace passenger's side solar sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step  12 .
  9. Check if HVAC related DTCs are set. If all HVAC DTCs are set, go to next step. If no HVAC DTCs are set, go to step  11 .
  10. Check for proper terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If terminal contacts are okay, replace IPM. See INSTRUMENT PANEL INTEGRATION MODULE (IPM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  12 .
  11. Repair open or short in Yellow wire. After repairs, go to next step.
  12. Reconnect all components and connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. After clearing DTCs, perform body control system diagnostic check. See BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
