Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Diagnostic Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Install scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Attempt to establish communication with RKE system. If scan tool communicates with RKE system, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with RKE system, go to step  3 .
  2. On scan tool, select display RKE DTC function. Check for RKE DTCs. If no DTCs are stored, go to step  4 . If RKE DTCs are displayed, see REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (FIRST DESIGN)  table in SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  3. Attempt to establish communication with other systems connected to same serial data line (BCM, Radio, etc.). If scan tool communicates with other systems, go to step  5 . If scan tool does not communicate with other systems, see diagnostic and repair procedures for serial data line in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  4. Operate transmitter through all button and switch positions. If transmitter functions properly, system is okay. If transmitter does not function properly, see TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) Natural, 4-pin connector. Connect test light between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal "A" (Red wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to next step  9 .
  6. Connect test light between battery voltage and RCDLR harness connector terminal "C" (Black wire). If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to next step  11 .
  7. Check for continuity between RCDLR harness connector terminal "B" (Brown/White wire) and BCM connector C1 terminal B9 (Brown/White wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace RCDLR. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram all RKE transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. Go to step  12 ,
  9. Repair open circuit in Red wire between fuse block and RCDLR. Go to step  12 .
  10. Repair open circuit in Brown/White wire between RCDLR and BCM. Go to step  12 .
  11. Repair open circuit in Black wire between RCDLR and ground. Go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Install or connect any components or connectors that were removed or disconnected. Clear all DTCs. Operate transmitter through all button and switch positions. If transmitter functions properly, system okay. If transmitter does not function properly, go to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) SYSTEM INOPERATIVE  .
