Lumbar Support Does Not Move Up Or Down (A45)

  1. If lumbar support system check was performed, go to next step. If lumbar support system check was not performed, go to LUMBAR SUPPORT SYSTEM CHECK (A45)  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Select MEMORY SEAT MODULE DATA LIST - INPUTS function. Move left lumbar switch to UP and DOWN position. If scan tool indicates lumbar switch is moving up and down, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate lumbar switch is moving up and down, go to step  6 .
  3. Disconnect left lumbar up/down motor. Connect a fused jumper between battery voltage and either terminal of lumbar up/down motor. Connect a second fused jumper wire between other terminal of motor to ground. If motor runs, go to next step. If motor does not run, go to step  12 .
  4. Disconnect Memory Seat Module (MSM) Black, 2-pin connector C1 and Blue, 32-pin connector C2. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and left lumbar up/down motor connector terminal "A" (Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step  13 .
  5. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and left lumbar up/down motor connector terminal "B" (Purple wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step  8 . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step  14 .
  6. Disconnect Memory Seat Module (MSM) Blue, 32-pin connector C2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and connector C2, terminal C11 (White wire). See Figure . If 10-15 volts exists, go to next step. If 10-15 volts does not exist, go to step  9 .
  7. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and MSM connector C2, terminal C12 (Yellow/Black wire). If 10-15 volts exists, go to next step. If 10-15 volts does not exist, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace MSM. See MEMORY SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  9. Disconnect left lumbar switch connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance of White wire between MSM connector C2, terminal C11 and lumbar switch connector terminal "B". If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step  11 . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step  15 .
  10. Using DVOM, measure resistance in Yellow/Black wire between MSM connector C2, terminal C12 and left lumbar switch connector terminal "C". If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step  16 .
  11. Replace left lumbar switch. See POWER SEATS - SEVILLE article. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  12. Replace left lumbar up/down motor. See POWER SEATS - SEVILLE article. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  13. Repair open in Tan wire between MSM and left lumbar up/down motor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs, recheck system operation.
  14. Repair open in Purple wire between MSM and left lumbar up/down motor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs, recheck system operation.
  15. Repair open in White wire between MSM and left lumbar switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs, recheck system operation.
  16. Repair open in Yellow/Black wire between MSM and left lumbar switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs, recheck system operation.
