Diagnostic System Check

NOTE: Connector Test Adaptor Kit (J 35616-A) must be used whenever a diagnostic procedure requires checking or probing a terminal to prevent damage to terminal. To locate and identify terminals, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  1. Turn ignition off. Install scan tool. Turn ignition to RUN position. Attempt to establish communications with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system. If communication with RKE system is established, go to next step. If communication with RKE system is not established, go to step 3).
  2. Using scan tool, select display RKE DTC function. Check for any RKE Bxxxx DTCs. If any RKE Bxxxx DTCs are stored, see appropriate DTC list. If no RKE Bxxxx DTCs are stored, go to step 4). If any Uxxxx DTCs are stored, see BODY CONTROL MODULE article.
  3. Attempt to establish communications with other systems connected to same serial line (PCM, ABS, RIM, IPC, etc.). If scan tool communicates with other systems, go to step 5). If scan tool does not communicate with other systems, see SCAN TOOL DIAGNOSTICS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  4. Operate transmitter through all button functions. If transmitter functions properly, system okay. If transmitter does not function properly, go to SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RKE module Black 4-pin connector. Connect test light between ground and RKE module harness connector terminal "1" (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 9).
  6. Connect test light between battery voltage and RKE harness connector terminal "4" (Black/White wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 11).
  7. Using DVOM, check for continuity between RKE module connector terminals "2" and "3" (Purple wires) and BCM connector terminal "2". If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, go to step 10).
  8. Replace keyless entry module. Program all RKE transmitters. Go to step 12).
  9. Repair open in Orange wire between rear junction block and RFA module. If fuse is open, locate and repair short to ground in circuit No. 540. Go to step 12).
  10. Repair open in circuit No. 1807 (Purple wire). Go to step 12)
  11. Repair open in Black white wire between RFA module and ground. Go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Install or connect any components or connectors that were removed or disconnected. Clear all DTCs. Verify system operation.
