Cruise Control Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Cadillac Seville, 1997 Cadillac Eldorado, and 1997 Cadillac DeVille. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn cruise control off. Disconnect cruise control module. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between cruise control module connector terminal "F" (Pink wire) and ground. See Fig 1 . If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair poor connection or open circuit in Pink wire.
  2. Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminals "F" (Pink wire) and "E" (Black/White wire). If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair poor connection or open in Black/White wire.
  3. Turn cruise control on. Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminals "E" (Black/White wire) and "G" (Light Blue wire). If test light does not glow, go to next step. If test light does not glow, check brake light adjustment and adjust as necessary. If adjustment is okay, replace brake light switch.
  4. Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminals "E" (Black/White wire) and "A" (Gray wire). If test light glows, go to step 7). If test light does not glow, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect multifunction lever. Connect test light between multifunction lever terminals "3" (Pink wire). If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, check for a poor connection, short to ground, or open in Pink wire between cruise control module and multifunction lever. If circuit is okay, replace multifunction lever. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  6. Check for a poor connection, short to ground, or open in Gray wire between cruise control module and multifunction lever. If circuit is okay, replace multifunction lever. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  7. Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminals "E" (Black/White wire) and "B" (Dark Blue wire). While observing test light, press and hold SET/COAST switch. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, check for a poor connection, short to ground, or open in Dark Blue wire between cruise control module and multifunction lever. If circuit is okay, replace multifunction lever. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  8. Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminals "E" (Black/White wire) and "D" (Purple wire). If test light glows, go to step 10). If test light does not glow, go to next step.
  9. Connect test light between ground and brake switch terminal "B" (Purple wire). Test light should be off. Connect test light between ground and brake switch terminal "A" (Pink wire). Test light should be on. If test light is not as specified, repair poor connection or open circuit in Purple or Pink wire. If test light is as specified, check brake switch adjustment. If adjustment is okay, replace brake light switch.
  10. If test light came on in step 8), set parking brake. Raise drive wheels. Using Digital Voltmeter/Ohmmeter (DVOM), measure voltage between cruise control module connector terminals "E" (Black/White wire) and "K" (Dark Green/White wire). While observing voltmeter, rotate drive wheels by hand. If voltage varies, go to next step. If voltage does not vary, repair poor connection or open in Dark Green/White wire.
  11. Attach a scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, command SMCC to allow cruise. Using DVOM, measure voltage between cruise control module connector terminals "E" (Black/White wire) and "H" (Dark Green wire). If about battery voltage exists, go to next step. If about battery voltage does not exist, repair poor connection or open circuit in Dark Green wire.
  12. Ensure ignition is off. Reconnect cruise control module. Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays SMCC INHIBITED, see TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If scan tool does not display SMCC INHIBITED, verify cruise control module connector is clean and tight. If no faults are found, replace cruise control module.
