System Test
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Establish communication with cruise control module. If communication can be established, go to next step. If communication can not be established, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CRUISE CONTROL MODULE .
- If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 55 is set, diagnose DTC. See DTC 55: CRUISE CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTION . If DTC 55 is not set, go to next step.
- Drive vehicle at a speed greater than 25 MPH. Move cruise control main switch to ON position. Press SET/ACCEL button once and release. Remove foot from accelerator pedal. Vehicle should maintain set speed. If cruise control does not maintain set speed, see CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE .
- Press and hold SET/ACCEL button until vehicle speed increases 4-5 MPH. Release SET/ACCEL button. Vehicle should accelerate and maintain new set speed. If cruise control does not accelerate and maintain new higher set speed, see CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT RESUME , ACCELERATE, OR TAP UP OR DOWN.
- Press and hold RESUME/DECEL button until vehicle speed decreases 4-5 MPH. Release RESUME/DECEL button. Vehicle should decelerate and maintain new set speed. If cruise control does not decelerate and maintain new lower set speed, see CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT RESUME , ACCELERATE, OR TAP UP OR DOWN.
- Depress brake pedal slightly. Cruise control system should disengage. If cruise control does not disengage, see CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT DISENGAGE WITH BRAKE PEDAL .
- Press RESUME/DECEL button once and release. Vehicle should accelerate and maintain previously set speed. If cruise control does not accelerate and maintain previously set speed, see CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT RESUME , ACCELERATE, OR TAP UP OR DOWN.
- Tap-up SET/ACCEL button (less than 3/4 of a second). Vehicle speed should increase one MPH. If vehicle speed does not increase 1-4 MPH and maintain new set speed, see CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT RESUME , ACCELERATE, OR TAP UP OR DOWN.
- Tap-down RESUME/DECEL button (less than 3/4 of a second). Vehicle speed should decrease one MPH. If vehicle speed does not decrease 1-4 MPH and maintain new set speed, see CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT RESUME , ACCELERATE, OR TAP UP OR DOWN.
- Move main switch to OFF position. Cruise control system should disengage, but retain previously set speed in memory. Cruise control system should disengage, and set speed should be erased from memory when ignition switch is turned to OFF position.
