DTC 83 - Low Brake Fluid Level: Notes
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) outputs 5 volts on circuit No. 849 to brake fluid level sensor. IPC determines level of brake fluid by voltage drop it detects across sensor circuit. This information is delivered to EBTCM via serial data line.
DTC 83 will set if brake fluid level falls below an acceptable level, or fluid level sensor becomes damaged or disconnected. It will also set with an open, short to ground, or short to battery voltage on circuit No. 849.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart. To identify circuits and terminals referenced in text and flowcharts, see WIRING DIAGRAM .
- Checks brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir.
- Check brake fluid level as detected by IPC.
- Brake fluid level is low. Fill and recheck.
- Brake fluid level as detected by IPC. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
- Checks IPC input parameter IPD04 with sensor disconnected, for a short to ground in circuit No. 849, or bad sensor.
- Checks IPC input parameter IPD04 with sensor disconnected and connector shorted, which should show zero volts.
- IPC detects acceptable brake fluid level. No problem is present.
- Checks for open between circuits No. 51 and 849.
