Operates Normally

  1. Perform PASS-KEY II(R) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. Turn ignition off. Disconnect starter enable relay connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between starter enable relay connector terminals "B" (Red wire) and "E" (Purple wire). Try to start engine.
  2. If engine cranks but does not start, replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If engine does not crank or start, check for open or short to ground in Red wire between starter enable relay and 50-amp BATT 1 fuse located in right maxi fuse block in engine compartment, forward of left strut tower; or Purple wire between starter enable relay and starter solenoid. If Red wire and Purple wire are okay, diagnose problem with starting system. See STARTER article in ELECTRICAL section.
  3. If engine starts, reconnect starter enable relay connector. Install scan tool and select IPC DATA LIST. Select OUTPUTS, then select STARTER ENABLE. Crank engine and observe starter enable status on scan tool. If starter enable is on during cranking, go to step 5). If starter enable is not on during cranking, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, retrieve Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If IPC DTC 2710, 2711 and/or 2750 is current, see INSTRUMENT PANEL article. If IPC DTC 2710, 2711 and/or 2750 is not current, replace IPC.
  5. Disconnect 23-pin C101 connector (Black) located in engine compartment, forward of left strut tower. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and 23-pin C101 connector (Black) terminal "P" (Yellow/Black wire) while cranking engine. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is not one volt or less, repair open in Yellow/Black wire between 23-pin C101 connector and IPC.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect starter enable relay connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between starter enable relay terminal "D" (Yellow/Black wire) and 23-pin C101 connector (Black) terminal "P" (Yellow/Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace starter enable relay. If resistance is not 5 ohms or less, repair open in Yellow/Black wire between starter enable relay and 23-pin C101 connector.
