DTC 83 Low Brake Fluid Level (Traction Control Vehicles Only): Notes

Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) outputs 5 volts on circuit No. 209 to brake fluid level sensor. IPC determines level of brake fluid by voltage drop it detects across sensor circuit. This information is delivered to EBTCM via serial data line.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Checks brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir.
  2. Check brake fluid level as detected by IPC.
  3. Brake fluid level is low. Fill and recheck.
  4. Brake fluid level as detected by IPC. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
  5. Checks IPC input parameter ID80 with sensor disconnected for a short to ground in circuit No. 209, or bad sensor.
  6. Checks IPC input parameter ID80 with sensor disconnected and connector shorted.
  7. IPC detects acceptable brake fluid level. No problem is present.
  8. Checks sensor resistor and checks for a short between circuits No. 209 and 51.
  9. Checks for an open in circuits No. 209 and 51.
