Lower Control Assembly: Installation

  1. Position the low reverse band using a piece of shim stock. (Shim thickness 0.20-0.030"). See Fig 1 .
  2. Place lower controls against forward support studs.
  3. Hand start bolts into channel plate. Bolts without flange are located next to transfer plate. Remove shim stock. See Fig 2 .
  4. Place oil transfer plate over open gasket area. Hand start bolts to hold plate in place. See Figure .
  5. Install two nuts on forward support studs. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Connect manual valve (915) to detent lever. Route harness over spacer plate rib and detent lever and snap into retaining clips on lower controls assembly. See Figure .
  7. Install wiring harness to shift solenoids "A" (909), "B" (909) and transaxle pressure sensor (936).
  8. Install scavenger screens, lip seals, bottom pan, and gasket. See SCAVENGER SCREENS & LIP SEALS  .
  9. Lower vehicle.
  10. Add Dexron(R) IIE transmission fluid as required. See LUBRICATION  .
  11. Reset transaxle oil life indicator if a complete fluid change was necessary. See RESETTING TRANSAXLE OIL LIFE INDICATOR  under LUBRICATION.
