Dual Sensor (Passenger Compartment Discriminating/Arming Sensor): Notes
CAUTION:
During service procedures, be very careful when handling a sensor. Never strike or jar a sensor. Under some circumstances, it could cause deployment and result in personal injury or improper operation of the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. All sensor and mounting bracket bolts must be carefully torqued to assure proper sensor operation. Never power up the SIR system when any sensor is not rigidly attached to vehicle, since the sensor could be activated when not attached and could result in deployment.
WARNING:
Proper operation of the sensors and Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system requires that any repairs to the vehicle structure return it to its original production configuration. Deployment (Current Code 51) requires, at a minimum, replacement of all sensors and the inflator module. Any visible damage to the sensors and/or their respective mounting brackets requires replacement, whether a deployment occurred or not.
CAUTION:
Proper operation of the dual sensor requires that the sensor assembly be rigidly attached to its bracket with the two bolts at the flanges of the sensor. The arrow on the sensor must be pointing toward the front of the vehicle.
All sensors are specifically calibrated for each vehicle series and are keyed to the mounting brackets and the SIR wiring harness. Caution should be used to ensure proper location of the sensors to their mounting brackets. The keying of the sensors to their mounting brackets and wiring harness should never be modified in the field.
