Connecting Tech 1 Diagnostic Scan Tool

NOTE: Diagnostic information refers to factory TECH 1 scan tool. The later version of the scan tool (TECH II) may also be used for diagnosis and testing.
WARNING: When using the TECH 1 for ABS/TCS diagnosis, the Anti-lock Brake System is disabled by the EBTCM when communicating with TECH l.. The red BRAKE warning light will be illuminated indicating only power assisted braking is possible.

Some diagnostic procedures in this article require that the TECH 1 Diagnostic Scan Tool be installed in order to perform diagnostic code readout, clear diagnostic trouble codes, observe speed sensor output, or perform functional tests on the ABS valve. The TECH 1 may be installed on the vehicle as described in the following procedure.

  1. Install the Mass Storage Cartridge into the TECH 1. Refer to the TECH 1 Mass Storage Cartridge Operator's Manual fo additional information about the cartridge.
  2. Plug the power cord into the vehicle's cigar lighter receptacle.
  3. Turn ignition on and proceed with tests outlined in the appropriate diagnostic procedure in this article. Check for any BCM, PCM or TCS diagnostic trouble codes that have not been diagnosed or cleared.
