Description & Operation
NOTE:
Some "C" and "H" Body vehicles are equipped with Variable Effort Steering (VES) system, identified by a solenoid on the power steering pump at the pressure line outlet. See STEERING SYSTEM - VARIABLE
article in the STEERING Section.
Power steering pump is designated as CB series or TC series. See Figure and Figure . Pump pressurizes fluid, and then sends it through the pump flow control valve to the rack and pinion assembly. See Figure . Pinion and valve assembly directs fluid to either side of the piston and rack, depending on turning direction. Piston and rack converts hydraulic pressure into linear force, reducing turning effort.
