Entering Switch Test
- With ".7.0" displayed on FDC, PCM switch test is initiated by placing cruise control switch in ON position and depressing brake pedal. To display ".7.0" on FDC, see INTRODUCTION TO DIAGNOSTIC TESTING.
- After brake pedal has been depressed, FDC will display "E.7.0". At this point, HI and LO buttons on ECCP can be used to select specific switch test desired. See step 3) for a complete list of PCM switch tests.
- When a specific switch test has been selected and that switch has been activated, display will alternately display code for test and "00" to confirm switch is working. Following is a descriptive list of PCM switch tests:
- "E.7.0" Cruise Control Brake Switch - This test detects opening and closing of cruise control brake switch at PCM terminal C2. See Figure - Figure . To activate test, turn cruise switch to ON position, turn ignition on and enter self-diagnostics. Depress brake pedal.
- "E.7.1" Viscous Converter Clutch (VCC) Brake Switch - This test detects opening and closing of VCC brake switch at PCM terminal C4. See Figure - Figure . To activate test, depress brake pedal.
- "E.7.2" Throttle Switch - Test detects opening and closing of Idle Speed Control (ISC) nose switch (PCM terminal A7). See Figure - Figure . To activate test, depress accelerator pedal.
- "E.7.3" Not A Valid Test - FDC will display "E.7.3".
- "E.7.5" Cruise Control On/Off Switch - This test detects opening and closing of cruise switch, mounted on dash (PCM terminal D2). See Figure
- Figure
. To activate test, place switch in ON position.NOTE: Cruise control switch must be in ON position to perform test "E.7.6".
- "E.7.6" Cruise Control Set/Coast Switch - This test detects operation of set/coast switch, located in turn signal lever (PCM terminal D3). See Figure
- Figure
. To activate test, depress set/coast button.NOTE: Cruise control switch must be in ON position to perform test "E.7.7".
- "E.7.7" Cruise Control Resume/Acceleration Switch - This test detects closing of resume/accel switch in turn signal lever (PCM terminal C3). See Figure - Figure . To activate test, slide resume/accel switch.
- "E.7.8" Power Steering Pressure Switch (PSPS) - This test detects opening and closing of power steering switch located on steering gear (PCM terminal C9). See Figure - Figure . To perform test, start engine and turn wheels from straight-ahead position to full right or left and then return to straight-ahead position. While this action is being performed, PCM checks power steering pressure switch for proper operation.
