Diagnosing INTERMITTENTS Using Snapshot On Code Set Feature

Diagnosis of intermittent problems with history trouble codes should begin in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article using the appropriate trouble code chart. If the chart leads to "See Notes on Intermittents", use the following procedure to help isolate the intermittent condition. The feature, called "Snapshot on Code Set", captures all parameter values whenever a trouble code sets. The ECM will store information for the most recent code that sets. The code number that is associated with the data is displayed upon entry into the "Snapshot on Code Set" display mode. The following is a general procedure that should be used as a guide for verifying a failure condition using the snapshot information in the ECM:

  1. Enter snapshot mode.
  2. Review the parameter(s) that are related to that code to verify the failure condition. Example: If a Code EO15 is stored, review ED04 and look for a reading of -38 or less.
  3. If the condition is verified, inspect wiring and connectors for loose, dirty, or poorly seated connections. If no trouble is found the component should be replaced.
