Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) Sensor

Mounted in the intake manifold, directly in front of throttle body, the MAT sensor measures intake air temperature. The sensor resistance changes due to air temperature.

The ECM uses these resistance changes to determine intake air density and then adjusts injector pulse accordingly.

Increase of intake manifold pressure requires additional fuel. The increase of manifold pressure produces a higher voltage at MAP sensor. This information is sent to the ECM so injector pulse width is increased. Decrease in manifold pressure results in decreased pulse width.
