System Check Chart A: Cluster Display Problem
You have been directed to this chart from the "SELF DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM CHECK " as a result of an odometer reading of "0" or "Error" on a digital cluster or a volt gauge reading of "8" on an analog cluster.
NOTE:
The following step numbers refer to circled numbers on diagnostic chart. See Fig 1
. For circuit identification, see Fig 2
.
- The ALDL cover is one of the branches of the 800 circuit. If it is off, it should be reinstalled and diagnosis should begin again at the SELF DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM CHECK .
- This step will isolate a fault in the data circuit between the ALDL cover and the Combo Panel. If the odometer reads zero miles or actual mileage, circuits 800A, 800B, 800C, 800D, the IPC, BCM, and Combo Panel are suspect.
- This step will prevent communication between the BCM and IPC. If the odometer reads zero miles, then the "Error" display was originating in the BCM and is caused by the BCM EEPROM. If the odometer reads "Error" then the IPC is the problem.
- This will determine whether the Combo Panel is affected by the problem being diagnosed. If so, then it must be a communication problem. If not, then the problem is isolated to the IPC or its power and ground circuits.
