Electronic Control Module (ECM)

The ECM is located under instrument panel, on passenger's side. The ECM controls all DFI system functions. It constantly monitors sensors and controls the systems that affect vehicle performance. The ECM contains a Memory-Calibration (MEM-CAL) unit.

The MEM-CAL unit has calibration information based on vehicle's weight, engine, axle ratio, and several other factors. Always check manufacturer's latest service parts information to ensure the correct MEM-CAL unit is installed when replacing or servicing ECM.

Poor engine performance, idle or part throttle surges, loss of cruise control, flashing "ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM" telltale, or hard/no starts may be encountered if MEM-CAL unit is poorly installed. If the MEM-CAL unit is missing or incorrectly installed, a code "B344" will be displayed by the BCM.
