Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)

The VSS creates an output signal which indicates vehicle speed to the ECM. VSS produces a weak signal which is amplified by a buffer amplifier on DeVille and Fleetwood models. Buffer amplifier is not used on remaining models.

Speed sensor is mounted on transaxle. Buffer amplifier is located behind glove box. The ECM uses VSS signals to operate fuel economy data panel, integral cruise control, idle speed control system and fuel delivery modification under load conditions.
