How To Perform Test

The procedure for performing the PUMP MOTOR test is described below and summarized in Fig 1 .

  1. Install the ABS Tester (J-36210). See ABS TESTER (J-36210)  under SPECIAL TOOLS. Leave ignition off.
  2. Depressurize hydraulic accumulator by pumping brake pedal a minimum of 25 times until a definite change in pedal feel is achieved. See DEPRESSURIZING HYDRAULIC ACCUMULATOR  under SERVICING.
  3. No test mode buttons should be depressed. Be sure that all selector buttons are in the out (disengaged) position. See Fig 1 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. The READY and PUMP MOTOR LEDs should illuminate.
  5. Begin timing when the ignition switch is turned to RUN position. Watch BRAKE indicator lamp in IPC and PUMP MOTOR LED on tester. BRAKE lamp should turn off within 25 seconds after ignition switch is turned to RUN position. PUMP MOTOR LED should turn off within 5 seconds after BRAKE indicator lamp turns off. If results differ from those described above, return to the appropriate diagnostic procedure or diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
