RANDOM FLASHING OF TAILTALE-LIGHTS OR IPS DISPLAYS
Model(s): 1986-87 Cadillac Eldorado and Seville
Bulletin No.: T87-85
Date: March 20, 1987
SERVICE INFORMATION
Some 1986 and 1987 Eldorados and Sevilles may experience random flashing of instrument panel tailtales or IPC displays with the ignition in the "OFF" position. This may be caused by electrical feedback to the BCM from the trunk pulldown unit. To diagnose this condition, open the trunk while the EPC displays are flashing. If opening the trunk stops the displays from flashing, feedback from the trunk pulldown unit may be causing the condition.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
The condition can be repaired by replacing the trunk pulldown switch with a new design switch, P/N 16603372, as follows:
- Remove trunk rear trim panel.
- Disconnect wire connector at trunk pulldown unit.
- Remove screw holding trunk pulldown switch to trunk pulldown unit and remove trunk pulldown switch.
- Install new trunk pulldown switch, being careful not to damage switch contacts on trunk pulldown latch.
- Reconnect wire connector and reinstall trunk rear trim panel.
