Auto. A/C Systems: Description

NOTE: Vacuum and electrical wiring diagrams are found at the end of this article.

Electronic Climate Control (ECC) is used on all Cadillac models (except Limousine). The temperature control system provides automatic regulation of interior car temperature regardless of outside conditions. Temperature and mode of operation are selected by pushbuttons on control panel.

"COOLER" and "WARMER" buttons select temperature, while mode is selected by one of 6 (7 with rear defroster) buttons across bottom of control panel. A modular heater-A/C case encloses the evaporator, heater, blower, and doors in one assembly. The CCOT (Cycling Clutch Orifice Tube) refrigeration system is the same as described for other General Motors vehicles under MANUAL SYSTEMS in this manual with the following exceptions: A thermostatic compressor cycling switch is used and a compressor low-pressure switch in the rear of the compressor head protects it during cold temperature conditions or in event of low refrigerant charge. All models use the 4 cylinder radial (R-4) compressor.
