Tune-Up Notes Changes, Cautions, Corrections: Notes
- 1967 CADILLAC ERRATIC IDLE SPEED CORRECTION:
Erratic idle speed may be caused by downshift switch causing primary throttles to bind. To correct, loosen switch mounting bracket at coil, and switch at bracket attachment, then align switch. Switch should not move as throttle is slowly opened and closed. Tighten screws. On units with arm and self-return spring, arm must be pressed onto switch shaft 3/16" and must contact adapter plate arm or stud.
- HOT IDLE ADJUSTING CAUTION:
Vacuum release valve in neutral safety switch must not be disconnected while idle adjustment is being made. Disconnect and plug parking brake hose at vacuum cylinder when adjusting hot idle speed.
- IDLE SPEED ADJUSTING CAUTION:
Some models have thermal sensing valve in radiator which controls idle speed by varying spark advance. Valve must be disconnected so idle speed can be set correctly. Disconnect and plug vacuum advance line at distributor before adjusting idle speed.
- FUEL PUMP TESTING NOTE:
Fuel pump will not maintain fuel pressure after engine is turned off because of bleed valves built into pump. Bleed valves prevent pressure build up and carburetor flooding when hot engine is not running.
- BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT NOTE:
Brake indicator red light on instrument panel is both a parking brake indicator and a brake system trouble indicator. On drum brake models, the light goes on when brake pedal travel is excessive. On disc brake models the light goes on when hydraulic fluid pressure is not equal between the front and rear systems. Unequal pressure could be caused by a leak or other malfunction. On both drum and disc brake models, the light goes out when pressure is removed from the brake pedal.
