Installation Procedure

  1. Prepare the mounting surface of the rear window.
    1. Remove all mounds or loose pieces of urethane adhesive from the glass surface area.
    2. Remove existing bead of urethane adhesive from the surface area by using a clean utility knife or razor blade scraper.
    3. Remove excess adhesive leaving a skim coat of the existing adhesive approximately 0.5 to 2 mm thick on the surface.
    4. Clean around the edge of both the inside surface of the rear window and the liftgate surface using a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water by volume on a dampened lint free cloth.
    5. The cut cured adhesive (skim coat) bead has a 2-hour open time for application of new glass bonding adhesive.
    6. Only use Dupont X2500 urethane adhesive to install the new rear window.
    7. WARNING:

      Refer to Window Retention Warning .

      NOTE:

      The primer steps are only needed on NEW glass.

    8. Only use Dupont Betaprime 43518 (clear activator), followed by Betaprime 43520A (black primer).
    9. Verify all primers and urethane adhesive are within expiration dates.
      WARNING:

      Failure to prep the area prior to the application of primer may cause insufficient bonding of urethane adhesive. Insufficient bonding of urethane adhesive may allow unrestrained occupants to be ejected from the vehicle resulting in personal injury.

    10. NOTE:

      Do not apply the primer to any existing bead of the urethane adhesive on the liftgate.

    11. Allow the primer to dry based on primer specifications.
    12. NOTE:

      Ensure to follow proper adhesive pattern.

    13. Apply Dupont X2500 urethane adhesive to the rear window.
    14. Ensure the urethane adhesive (1) is 6mm (H) by 10mm (W).

    With an assistant, install the 4 locator pins (1) and rear window (2) to the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    DO NOT perform any of the following steps until the rear window has been cured for a minimum of 2 hours.
