Installation Procedure

  1. Install the upper intermediate steering shaft and upper intermediate steering shaft boot as an assembly.

  2. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (3) - Install
  3. Prepare the intermediate steering shaft upper bolt (2) for installation.
    1. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive. (2)
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. (2) Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  4. CAUTION:

    Fastener Caution .

  5. Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (2) - Install and tighten 39 N.m (29 lb ft)
  6. Slide the upper intermediate steering shaft boot (1) downwards and align the boot to the intermediate steering shaft inner boot.
  7. Secure the upper intermediate steering shaft boot (1) with the retaining tabs (2) on the intermediate steering shaft inner boot.

  8. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) - Install

  9. Prepare the intermediate steering shaft upper bolt (1) for installation.

    1. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive. (1)
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. (1) Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  10. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 42 N.m (31 lb ft)
  11. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster - Install - Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement
  12. Remove the CH-42640  Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin (1) from the steering column lower access hole.
