Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON.
- Verify the K194 Rear Gate Module is programmed with the latest and correct software.
- If the software is not the latest or is not the correct software
Refer to Control Module References for rear gate module replacement, programming and setup.
- Go to next step: If the software is the latest and is correct
- If the software is not the latest or is not the correct software
- Verify the K194 Rear Gate Module does not have any current DTCs set.
- If the K194 Rear Gate Module has current DTCs set
- Go to next step: If the K194 Rear Gate Module does not have any current DTCs set
- Verify DTC B176B or B1576 is not set as a history DTC.
- DTC B176B is set only as history
- DTC B1576 is set only as history
Refer to Rear End Spoiler Replacement
- Go to next step: If the K194 Rear Gate Module does not have any history DTCs set
- Liftgate Closed, verify the scan tool Rear Gate Latch Unlatch Switch, Rear Gate Latch Primary Switch, and Rear Gate Latch Neutral Switch parameters are as listed below:
- Rear Gate Latch Unlatch Switch parameter Inactive
- Rear Gate Latch Primary Switch parameter Inactive
- Rear Gate Latch Neutral Switch parameter Inactive
- If any of the parameters are not as listed
Refer to DTC B1584, B1ABB, or B1ABC - Liftgate Latch Switches Malfunction
- Go to next step: If the parameters are as listed
- Verify the A23C Liftgate Latch will activate and release the liftgate when pressing the appropriate button on the keyless entry transmitter twice.
- If the A23C Liftgate Latch does not activate
- Go to next step: If the A23C Liftgate Latch does activate
- Ignition ON, all vehicle doors unlocked, verify the liftgate mode switch is set to Full or 3/4
- Verify the liftgate will unlatch and power open while pressing the S45A Liftgate Release Switch - Exterior.
- If the liftgate does not release and power open
Refer to DTC B16C5 (TC2) , or DTC B16C5 (TB4)
- Go to next step: If the liftgate does release and power open
- If the liftgate does not release and power open
- Liftgate Open, verify the scan tool parameter Rear Gate Travel is greater than 70%
- If not the specified value or the parameter does not change
Refer to DTC B1589 or B158A - Liftgate Angle Sensor Malfunction
- Go to next step: If greater than the specified value
- If not the specified value or the parameter does not change
- Liftgate Open, verify that the liftgate will remain at or near the full open position and does not slowly close.
- If the liftgate will not remain open or begins to slowly close
Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement (manual) , or Liftgate Strut Replacement (power)
- Go to next step: If the liftgate remains in the full open position
- If the liftgate will not remain open or begins to slowly close
- Liftgate Open, verify the scan tool Rear Gate Anti-pinch Sensor Raw Voltage parameter is between 3 V-3.5 V.
- If not between 3 V-3.5 V
- Go to next step: If between 3 V-3.5 V
- Liftgate Open, verify the scan tool Rear Gate Latch Unlatch Switch, Rear Gate Latch Primary Switch, and Rear Gate Latch Neutral Switch parameters are as listed below:
- Rear Gate Latch Unlatch Switch Status parameter Active
- Rear Gate Latch Primary Switch Status parameter Active
- Rear Gate Latch Neutral Switch Status parameter Inactive
- If any of the parameter are not as listed
Refer to DTC B1584, B1ABB, or B1ABC - Liftgate Latch Switches Malfunction
- Go to next step: If the parameters are as listed
- Verify the scan tool Rear Gate Close Switch parameter changes between Active and Inactive when pressing the B70 Liftgate Close Switch.
- If the parameter does not change
- Go to next step: If the parameter changes
- Verify the liftgate will perform the power open function when pressing the S45A Liftgate Release Switch - Exterior.
- If the liftgate does not power close and sets DTC B158B or DTC B158C
Refer to DTC B158B or B158C - Liftgate Motor Power Open/Close Malfunction
- Go to next step: If the liftgate does power open
- If the liftgate does not power close and sets DTC B158B or DTC B158C
- Verify the liftgate will perform the power open function when pressing the S45 Liftgate Control Switch.
- If the liftgate does not power open
Replace the component: Liftgate Release Switch Replacement
- Go to next step: If the liftgate does power open
- If the liftgate does not power open
- Set the S45 Liftgate Control Switch to the 3/4 mode.
- Command the power liftgate to open by pressing the S45 Liftgate Control Switch.
Verify the liftgate performs the power open function and stops at the garage mode position.
- If the liftgate will only perform the full open operation.
Replace the component: Liftgate Release Switch Replacement
- Go to next step: If the liftgate performs the power open function and stops at the garage mode position.
- If the liftgate will only perform the full open operation.
- If equipped, liftgate Closed, with the keyless entry transmitter within 3 feet (1 meter) of the liftgate, activate the rear closure hands free release system with a kicking motion of a foot under the rear fascia. The tail lamps will flash 3 times if the rear closure hands free sensors detect the motion.
- If the tail lamps do not flash
- Go to next step: If the tail lamps flash
- All OK.
Refer to the owner's manual for the location of the kick sensors prior to performing the kicking motion
