Mechanical System Description and Operation: Operation
The handle latching system can be mechanically unlocked by the following methods:
- Pulling the inside handle
- Rotating the key cylinder (driver door only)
- Lifting the side door locking rod knob (when not flush to the door trim)
The handle latching system can be mechanically locked by the following methods:
- Rotating the key cylinder (driver door only)
- Pushing down the side door locking rod knob
If equipped, the rear door handle latching system can be mechanically safety locked (child lock/disable inside handle release function) by sliding the safety lock lever forward as pictured below (located on the edge of the rear door)
The handle latching system can be released by the following methods:
- When unlocked, pulling the outside door handle rotates the counter balance which pulls the outside release cable attached to the outside release lever on the latch.
- When unlocked, pulling the inside door handle which pulls the inside release cable attached to the inside release lever on the latch.
- When locked and safety locks are disengaged (rear door only), pull the inside door handle twice, first pull to unlock and second pull to release the latch.
NOTE:
Inside and outside door latch release levers need to be returned completely to the home position for the latch to be unlocked.Failure to return the latch levers to the home position will internally lock the latch, even if the locking rod knob shows unlocked.
