Installation Procedure

    Position the steering gear (4) on the drivetrain and front suspension frame.

  2. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

    NOTE:

    Start ALL fasteners by hand before tighten ing.

  3. Install the steering gear bolts (3), washers (2), and nuts (1).

    Install NEW bolts.

  4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Tighten the NEW steering gear bolts (3).

    Tighten

    1. First Pass: 100 N.m (74 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: (90 - 105 degrees)
  6. Install the front stabilizer shaft on the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Stabilizer Shaft Replacement
  7. Raise the rear of the drivetrain and front suspension frame.
  8. Install ALL drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Long Cradle)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Short Cradle)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Long Cradle - V5O)
  9. Remove the adjustable stands from underneath the vehicle.

    Install the power steering gear inlet hose seals (4), power steering gear outlet hose (3), and power steering gear inlet hose (2) in the steering gear.

    Install NEW seals.

  11. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bolt (1) and tighten to 11 N.m (97 lb in).

    Secure the power steering gear outlet hose (3) to the steering gear using the power steering gear inlet hose bracket bolt (1) and the plastic push pin (2).

  13. Tighten the power steering gear outlet hose bracket bolt (1) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

    Secure the power steering gear inlet hose (3) to the vehicle frame using the power steering gear inlet hose bracket bolt (1) and the plastic push pin (2).

  15. Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose bracket bolt (1) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  16. Rear Transmission Mount Through Bolt - Install - Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement
  17. Exhaust Isolator @ Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame - Install [2x] - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LUV)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LE2)
  18. Front Lower Control Arm @ Steering Knuckle - Install [2x] - Lower Control Arm Replacement
  19. Front Stabilizer Shaft Link @ Front Stabilizer Shaft - Install [2x] - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
  20. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod @ Steering Knuckle - Install [2x] - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement 
  21. Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  22. Install the intermediate steering shaft lower universal joint. Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (N40)
  23. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Power Steering System Bleeding 
  24. Measure and adjust the wheel alignment. Wheel Alignment Measurement
