Installation Procedure

    NOTE:

    Use an assistant to position and hold the intermediate steering shaft inner boot inside of the vehicle.

  1. Underneath the vehicle, position the upper lip of the intermediate steering shaft boot (2) downwards and align the plastic piece of the boot with the intermediate steering shaft inner boot retaining tabs (3) and push upwards until ALL of the retaining tabs are completely locked in place.
  2. Release the upper lip of the intermediate steering shaft boot (2) and position the boot in the same exact position it was in before removing.
  3. Slowly raise the steering gear (1) while keeping the notch on the intermediate steering shaft boot (2) aligned with the notch on the steering gear.
  4. Once properly aligned, finish installing all components underneath the vehicle. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (N40 With MNK)Steering Gear Replacement (NJ1 With MNH or MNK)Steering Gear Replacement (NJ1 With MR5)Steering Gear Replacement (N40 With M4P)

  6. Position the intermediate steering shaft lower universal joint (3) in the vehicle.
  7. Align the match marks on the intermediate steering shaft lower universal joint and the steering gear shaft to aid in installation.
  8. Align the match marks on the intermediate steering shaft lower universal joint and the intermediate steering shaft to aid in installation.
  9. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  10. Install and tighten Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (2) to 49 N.m (36 lb ft)
  11. Install and tighten Intermediate Steering Shaft Middle Bolt (1) to 49 N.m (36 lb ft)
