Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the CHMSL relay.
- Ignition OFF, exterior lamps OFF, test for less than 5.0 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the control circuit terminal 5 and ground.
- If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to voltage.
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 3 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ circuit fuse is open, test the control circuit terminal 5 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the CHMSL relay.
- Ignition OFF, connect the CHMSL relay.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the appropriate control modules listed below.
- ECM X2 and TCM X1 module (LNF)
- ECM X1 and TCM X1 module (L61 or LE5)
- Connect a test lamp between the appropriate signal circuit terminal listed below and ground.
- ECM harness connector X2 terminal 52 (LNF)
- ECM harness connector X1 terminal 55 (L61 or LE5)
- Ignition ON, press and release the brake pedal. Verify the test lamp turns ON and OFF when pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
- If the test lamp is always ON, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
- If the test lamp is always OFF, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
- Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the ECM module.
- Connect a test lamp between the appropriate signal circuit terminal listed below and ground.
- TCM terminal 42 (LNF)
- TCM terminal 42 (L61 or LE5)
- Ignition ON, press and release the brake pedal. Verify the test lamp turns ON and OFF when pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
- If the test lamp is always OFF, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the ECM module.
- If all circuit tests normal, replace the TCM.
