Removal Procedure
- Release the electric parking brake (EPB) using the electrical release.
- Turn the ignition on and depress the brake pedal.
- Press the parking brake switch down, and hold for 5 seconds. A solid yellow EPB symbol will appear on the instrument cluster.
- Press the parking brake switch down again within 5 seconds. A flashing yellow EPB symbol will appear on the instrument cluster display.
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the left-rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Remove the left-rear wheelhouse panel liner. Refer to Rear Wheelhouse Liner Replacement .
- Remove the exhaust rear auxiliary muffler heat shield - left side. Refer to Exhaust Rear Auxiliary Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side .
- Should the electric parking brake release be inoperative, remove the rubber plug (1) from the rear of the electronic parking brake control module (2), and using a suitably-sized flat-head screwdriver release parking brake cable tension by turning the internal fitting fully clockwise to the stop.
- Disconnect the electronic parking brake control module wiring harness.
- Remove the 2 electronic parking brake control module nuts (1).
- For easier access to the parking brake cable connection, detach the electronic parking brake control module (2) from the rubber mounting grommet (3), and lay the control module (2) aside.
- Unscrew the parking brake cable connection cover (1) from the electronic parking brake control module (3).
- Unclip the parking brake cable (2) from the electronic parking brake control module (3).
- Remove the electronic parking brake control module (3) from the vehicle.
NOTE:
Should the electric parking brake release be inoperative, perform a manual release procedure. See corresponding steps below.
