Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Buick Regal and 2004 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .

  4. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector.
  5. Remove the LH and RH engine mount strut braces. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L or Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right and Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  6. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  7. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  8. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) harness from the fan shroud clip.

  10. Remove the cooling fan shroud bolts.
  11. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  12. Remove the push pin retainer from the lower left side of the fan shroud.
  13. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the retainer clip at the bottom of the cooling fan shroud.
  14. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle and Deflector Replacement - Lower .

  16. Use J 38185  to remove the outlet hose clamp from the radiator. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  17. Remove the outlet hose from the radiator.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Remove the cooling fan shroud clip from the top of the radiator.

  21. Remove the radiator upper support brackets that connect to the fan shroud.
  22. Remove the fan motor heat shield.
  23. Remove the cooling fan shroud.
  24. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Line Quick Connect Fitting in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  25. Remove the coolant reservoir hose from the radiator overflow neck.
  26. Remove the radiator.
