Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pump to the engine.

    CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Install the power steering pump retaining bolts. Tighten the power steering pump retaining bolts to 25 N.m (18 ft lbs).
  3. Install the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to COOLANT RECOVERY RESERVOIR REPLACEMENT in Engine Cooling.
  4. Raise the vehicle.
  5. Connect the wiring harness to the power steering pump.
  6. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump. Tighten the power steering pressure hose to 30 N.m (22 ft lbs).

  8. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.

  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Install the drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT in Engine Mechanical - 3.8 L.
  12. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to BLEEDING POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
  13. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
