Engine Electrical Diagnostic System Check

  1. Perform battery test and inspection. See BATTERY TESTING & INSPECTION  under ON-VEHICLE TESTING. If battery passed test, go to next step. If battery did not pass test, replace battery.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see BODY CONTROL MODULES - CENTURY & REGAL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Using scan tool attempt to communicate with each Body Control Module (BCM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with each module, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with each module, Repair communication concern. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - CENTURY & REGAL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  4. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCs function and retrieve any BCM, IPC and PCM DTCs. Record all DTCs displayed, DTC status and module which set DTC. If scan tool displayed DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool did not display DTCs, repair starting system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If scan tool does not display DTCs which begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs which begin with "U", perform appropriate test. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - CENTURY & REGAL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  6. If scan tool displays DTCs B1000, B1004, B1007 or B1009, perform appropriate test. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - CENTURY & REGAL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If scan tool displays any other DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CENTURY & REGAL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
