Door Systems Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - PARK AVENUE article.
  2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Try to establish scan tool communication with Driver Door Module (DDM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If communication with DDM and PCM is established, go to next step. If communication with DDM and PCM is not established, see TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - PARK AVENUE article.
    3. NOTE: Engine may start during this step. Turn engine off as soon crank power mode is observed.
  3. Using scan tool, select CLASS 2 POWER MODE in DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT CHECK. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing IGNITION SWITCH POWER MODE parameter. If ignition switch parameter reading matches actual ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If ignition switch parameter reading does not match actual ignition switch position for all switch positions, repair voltage input to body control module as necessary. See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article.
  4. Select display DTC function for DDM. Record all displayed DTCs, status of displayed DTCs and module that set the DTC. If DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, diagnose system by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS  .
  5. If scan tool does not display DTC U1161, U1162, or U1170, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC U1161, U1162, or U1170, perform appropriate test. See
  6. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - PARK AVENUE article.
  7. If scan tool does not display DTC B1656, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1656, perform appropriate test. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - PARK AVENUE article.
  8. If scan tool does not display DTCs B1982 or B1983, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1982 or B1983, perform appropriate test. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - PARK AVENUE article.
  9. If scan tool does not display DTCs B2240, B2241 or B2242, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B2240, B2241 or B2242, perform appropriate test. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - PARK AVENUE article.
  10. If scan tool displays DTCs that begin with "P", see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display DTCs that begin with "P", repair door system as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table.
