Retained Accessory Power System Diagnostic System Check

NOTE: Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) module may as be referred to as Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module.
  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition on. Try to establish scan tool communication with Body Control Module (BCM), Driver Door Module (DDM), Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) module. If communication with all modules is established, go to next step. If communication with all modules is not established, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. NOTE: The engine may start during the following step. Turn engine off as soon as you have observed the crank power mode.
  4. Access the Class 2 Power Mode in the diagnostic circuit check on the scan tool. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing ignition switch power mode parameter. If ignition switch parameter readings match ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If ignition switch parameter readings do not match ignition switch position for all switch positions, repair voltage input to body control module as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  5. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTC function for BCM and DDM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, go to step  8 .
  6. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  7. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, B1652, B1656 and B1658, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1652, B1656 and B1658, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  8. If scan tool does not display DTCs B1982 or B1983, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1982 or B1983, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  9. Check courtesy lights for proper operation. If courtesy lights operate properly, diagnose Retained Accessory Power (RAP) system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS. If courtesy lights do not operate properly, diagnose lighting system by symptom.
