Automatic Air Conditioning System Diagnostic System Check
- Check A/C system operation. See appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C SYSTEMS article in HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Access the Class 2 Power Mode in the diagnostic circuit check on scan tool. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing ignition switch power mode parameter. If ignition switch parameter readings match ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If ignition switch parameter readings do not match ignition switch position for all switch positions, repair voltage input to body control module as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Turn ignition on. Try to establish scan tool communication with Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM), Body Control Module (BCM) and Powertrain Control Module (BCM). If communication with modules is established, go to next step. If communication with modules is not established, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Access the ignition switch parameter in BCM inputs data display list on scan tool.
- Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTC function for IPM, BCM and PCM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, diagnose system by symptom. See appropriate AUTOMATIC A/C SYSTEMS article in HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING.
- If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If scan tool does not display DTCs B10XX, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B10XX, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
- If scan tool does not display DTCs B1982, B1983, B2348, B0560 or B0620, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTCs B1982, B1983, B2348, B0560 or B0620, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
- If scan tool displays DTCs that are associated with HVAC, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool does not display DTCs that are associated with HVAC, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
NOTE:
The engine may start during the following step. Turn engine off as soon as you have observed the crank power mode.

NOTE:
B10XX refers to any DTC that starts with B10.
