Test C: Power Window Inoperative From Passenger Door

  1. If DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK has been performed, go to next step. If DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK has not been performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Ensure passenger door power windows are inoperative. If passenger door windows operate from passenger door, repair by appropriate symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  . If passenger door windows do not operate from passenger door, go to next step.
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select DRIVER DOOR MODULE, SPECIAL FUNCTIONS, then OUTPUT CONTROL. Select inoperative window for test. Using scan tool, command inoperative window UP and DOWN. If window moves according to scan tool command, go to next step. If window does not move according to scan tool, go to step  5 .
  4. Using scan tool, select DRIVER DOOR MODULE, DATA DISPLAY and INPUTS. Observe appropriate PASS DOOR WINDOW SW, LT REAR DOOR WINDOW SW or RT REAR DOOR WINDOW SW parameter for inoperative window. Turn headlight switch on. Operate passenger door inoperative window switch to UP, DOWN and EXPRESS position. If door window switch parameter changes states from IDLE state to UP, DOWN, and EXPRESS (for front door windows), go to step  17 . If parameters do not change states from IDLE to UP, DOWN, or EXPRESS (for front door windows), go to step  9 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect inoperative window door module 4-pin harness connector (front door module connector C3, or rear door modules connector C2). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect test light between window door module harness connector terminal "A" (Orange wire) and terminal "D" (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect inoperative window door module 4-pin harness connector (C3 or C2). Disconnect inoperative window motor harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect test light between ground and window motor terminal "A" (Dark Blue wire). Operate passenger door window switch associated with inoperative window in UP position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  11 .
  7. Connect test light between ground and inoperative window motor harness connector terminal "B" (Black wire). Operate passenger door window switch associated with inoperative window in DOWN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  12 .
  8. Connect test light between inoperative window motor harness connector terminal "A" (Dark Blue wire) and terminal "B" Brown wire). Operate passenger door window switch associated with inoperative window in UP and DOWN positions. If test light illuminates for UP and DOWN positions, go to step  16 . If test light does not illuminate for either UP or DOWN positions, go to step  17 .
  9. NOTE: If 3-amp fuse blows during test procedure, check inoperative state signal circuit (UP or DOWN) for short to voltage.
  10. Leave scan tool connected. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect inoperative power window switch harness connector. Connect 3-amp fused jumper wire between inoperative window switch harness connector ground circuit terminal No. 4 (Black/White wire) and switch signal DOWN circuit terminal No. 1 (Brown wire), or UP signal circuit terminal No. 2 (Dark Green wire). Choose appropriate circuit of the state that did not respond. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If appropriate door window switch parameter (PASS DOOR WINDOW SW, LT REAR DOOR WINDOW SW or RT REAR DOOR WINDOW SW) displays inoperative state, go to step  15 . If appropriate door window switch parameter does not display inoperative state, go to step  13 .
  11. Check for an open in Orange wire (voltage supply circuit) to appropriate door module (front door module connector C3, or rear door modules connector C2). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 . If Orange wire is okay, go to step  18 .
  12. Check for a short to ground, high resistance or an open in Dark Blue wire between inoperative window motor and appropriate door module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 . If Dark Blue wire is okay, go to step  17 .
  13. Check for a short to ground, high resistance or an open in Brown wire between inoperative window motor and appropriate door module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 . If Brown wire is okay, go to step  17 .
  14. Check for an open in Black/White wire (ground circuit) between appropriate door module and window motor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 . If Black/White wire is okay, go to next step.
  15. Check for a short to battery or an open in inoperative window switch signal DOWN circuit terminal No. 1 (Brown wire), or UP signal circuit terminal No. 2 (Dark Green wire). Choose appropriate signal circuit of the state that did not respond in step  9 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 . If suspect signal circuit (Brown or Dark Green wire) is okay, go to step  17 .
  16. Check for poor connections at inoperative power window switch harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 . If connections are okay, go to step  19 .
  17. Check for poor connections at inoperative power window motor harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 . If connections are okay, go to step  20 .
  18. Check for poor connections at inoperative passenger door module harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 . If connections are okay, go to step  21 .
  19. Repair open in Black wire (ground circuit) associated with connector (C3 for front passenger door module or connector C2 for a rear door module). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and go to step  22 .
  20. Replace inoperative power window switch. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  22 .
  21. Replace inoperative power window motor. See WINDOW MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  22 .
  22. Replace inoperative passenger door module. See DOOR MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  22 .
  23. Operate system to verify repair. If condition still exists, go to step  2 . If condition no longer exists, system is okay.
