Test A: Power Mirrors Inoperative
NOTE:
Reviewing system description and operation information will help determine if condition described by customer is normal operation, and may help determine correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists.
- If power mirror system description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step. If description and operation has not been reviewed, see DESCRIPTION & OPERATION .
- Move mirror selector switch to left mirror position. Operate left mirror to left, right, up and down positions and note operation. Move mirror selector switch to right mirror position. Operate right mirror to left, right, up and down positions and note operation. If both power mirrors do not operate properly, go to next step. If both power mirrors operate properly, see DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS .
- If both mirrors are inoperative, go to next step. If only one mirror is inoperative, go to step 6 .
- Disconnect power mirror switch 10-pin harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and power mirror switch 10-pin harness connector terminal "G" (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 7 .
- Connect test light between power mirror switch 10-pin harness connector terminal "B" (Black wire) and terminal "G" (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to step 9 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 15 .
- Disconnect suspect power mirror 8-pin harness connector. Place mirror selector switch in appropriate position. Connect test light between specified power mirror 8-pin harness connector terminals and operate power mirror switch in both directions for functions being tested. See POWER MIRROR CIRCUIT TESTS
table. See Fig 2
. If test light does not illuminate in both directions, go to step 8
. If test light illuminates in both directions, go to step 12
.POWER MIRROR CIRCUIT TESTS
Power Mirror Switch Position Test Between Terminals (Wire Color) Left Mirror Left/Right "A" (White) & "B" (Light Blue) Up/Down "B" (Light Blue) & "C" (Light Green) Right Mirror Left/Right "A" (Red/White) & "B" (Gray) Up/Down "B" (Gray) & "C" (Purple/White) - Test Orange wire between power mirror switch 10-pin harness connector and instrument panel fuse block for an open or short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or short to ground is not found, go to step 9 . If an open or short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Test suspect wires between power mirror 8-pin harness connector and power mirror switch 10-pin harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS for an open. If an open is not found, go to next step. If an open is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Reconnect power mirror 8-pin harness connector if previously disconnected. Reconnect power mirror switch 10-pin harness connector if previously disconnected. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, backprobe each suspect power mirror motor 8-pin harness connector control circuit terminal. See IDENTIFYING POWER MIRROR CONTROL CIRCUITS
. See Fig 2
. If test light does not illuminate at any terminal, go to step 10
. If test light illuminates at any terminal, go to step 13

Power Mirror Switch Control Circuit Test At Terminal (Wire Color) Left Mirror Left/Right "J" (White) Up/Down "K" (Light Green) Right Mirror Left/Right "F" (Red/White) Up/Down "C" (Purple/White) - Check for poor connections at power mirror switch. If poor connections are not found, go to step 16 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Check for poor connections at suspect power mirror. If poor connections are not found, go to step 17 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Repair short to ground in appropriate wire(s). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step 18 .
- Repair short to voltage in appropriate wire(s). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step 18 .
- Repair open in Black wire between power mirror switch 10-pin harness connector and ground point. Ground point is located inside left door sill, forward of front seat. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step 18 .
- Replace power mirror switch. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 18 .
- Replace power mirror drive motor. See POWER MIRROR DRIVE MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2
. If system operates properly, system is okay.
