Power Mirror System Operation

The outside rearview mirror switch receives power through battery positive voltage circuit from POWER MIRROR fuse (2-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. The power mirror switch also receives a constant ground from a ground point located inside left door sill, forward of front seat.

Each position of outside rearview mirror 4-position switch has dual switch contacts. Each contact is connected to opposing sides of appropriate power mirror motors through mirror selector switch. Mirror selector switch completes these circuits depending on position of mirror selector switch (left or right).

If mirror selector switch is placed in left position and up switch is depressed, battery positive voltage will be supplied to left outside rearview mirror up/down motor through left mirror motor down control circuit and ground through left mirror motor left control circuit. If down switch is depressed, battery positive voltage will be supplied to left outside rearview mirror up/down motor through left mirror motor left control circuit and ground through left mirror motor down control circuit.

Remainder of mirror functions operate in same manner described above. Placing power mirror switch in opposing positions (left/right or up/down) will reverse polarity to mirror motor.
