Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Check if DTC P0560 is set. If DTC P0560 is set, perform ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If DTC P0560 is not set, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select OUTPUT DRIVER DATA list. Observe scan tool parameters. If any parameters indicate a fault is present, go to next step. If no parameters indicate a fault is present, go to step  5.
  4. Check for short to voltage on control circuit for component that indicated a fault. Repair circuit as necessary, then go to step  6. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  5. Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. See PROGRAMMING . After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Start engine and let it idle until normal operating temperature is reached. Using scan tool, select SPECIFIC DTC function for this DTC. Operate vehicle under conditions required to set DTC until scan tool indicates that diagnostic ran. If diagnostic passed, go to next step. If diagnostic did not pass, go to step  2.
  7. Using scan tool, observe all stored information. If scan tool displays any DTCs that have not been diagnosed, go to perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool does not display any DTCs that have not been diagnosed, system is okay.
