Test B: Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check was not performed, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  2. Check power door lock function using door mounted switch. If power door lock functions properly, go to next step. If power door lock does not function properly, see appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
  3. Check trunk release function using instrument panel mounted switch. If trunk lid release functions properly, go to next step. If trunk lid release does not function properly, repair wiring as necessary. See POWER REAR COMPARTMENT & FUEL DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS article.
  4. NOTE: Inspect keyless entry transmitter to ensure it is correct model for this vehicle. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
  5. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and the Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step  8 .
  6. If none of the buttons sound tone or illuminate the Green light, go to next step. If any button sounds tone and illuminates Green light, replace transmitter. Go to step  11 .
  7. Replace transmitter battery. Resynchronize transmitter. See RESYNCHRONIZING TRANSMITTERS  under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
  8. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on J43241 tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and the Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step  8 .
  9. Press instant alarm button on transmitter. If instant alarm function operates normally, go to next step. If instant alarm function does not operate normally, go to step  11 .
  10. Resynchronize transmitter. See RESYNCHRONIZING TRANSMITTERS  under PROGRAMMING. If locks cycle to lock, then unlock, go to next step. If locks do not cycle to lock, then unlock, go to step  11 .
  11. Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If all RFA functions do not operate normally, go to next step. If all RFA functions operate normally, go to step  13 .
  12. Program transmitter. See PROGRAMMING TRANSMITTERS  under PROGRAMMING. If locks do not cycle to lock, then unlock, go to next step. If locks cycle to lock, then unlock, go to step  13 .
  13. Replace RFA module. See REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  14. Operate system to verify repair.
