Air Bag System Diagnostic System Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communication with Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM). If scan tool communicates with SDM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with SDM, perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Select Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) DISPLAY DTCS function on scan tool. If scan tool displays any SIR DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool does not display any SIR DTCs, repair air bag system by symptom. For information on air bag DIAGNOSIS & TESTING, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
  4. Select DISPLAY DTCS function on scan tool for BCM. If scan tool does not display any DTCs which begin with a "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with a "U", perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, perform DTC B1000: BODY CONTROL MODULE INTERNAL FAULT  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, repair air bag system as necessary. For information on air bag DIAGNOSIS & TESTING, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
