Description & Operation

A permanent-magnet motor operates each power window. Each motor raises and lowers window when voltage is supplied by door module. Motor direction depends on polarity of supply voltage. Switches control supply voltage polarity.

Power window system functions are controlled by the Driver Door Module (DDM), Passenger Door Module (PDM) or Rear Door Module (RDM). All modules are connected to a serial data link. See DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.

When ignition switch is in RUN position, power for window system is supplied to master switch assembly through fuse block circuit breaker. Window switches provide a ground signal to control module when operated. System ground points are located behind left and right kick panels.

Driver Door Module (DDM) directly controls drivers door window motor and express DOWN. DDM sends window UP/DOWN messages received from power door lock switch to passenger door lock module (PDM) and rear door module (RDM) over simple bus interface (SBI) line. DDM also contains Class 2 data link which communicates with other systems. Left front power door locks and power outside mirror are also controlled through DDM. Express down feature is A driver side only feature that allows left front window to be fully opened by pressing left front window switch down to second detent. Express travel can be stopped at any position by momentarily pressing either UP or DOWN.

Passenger Door Module (PDM) controls passenger door window motor. PDM controls passenger door window directly from right front power window switch, or from instructions over SBI. Power door locks and power outside rear view mirror are also controlled through this module.

Rear Door Module (RDM) controls both rear door window motors. RDM controls rear windows directly from rear door window switches, or from instructions over SBI.
